Home to Success
Nothing can be more important ensuring your children grow up healthy, happy and well educated.
For GEMS it is a wonderful privilege to be able to play our part in helping you to make that a reality.
We provide children with great teachers and the most up to date education. We make our schools happy places children want to come too.
We always encourage good health and nutrition. But to reality see your children reach thier full potential, we need something else - something you and your childen can provide.
Why parents matter as much as school
Education is a three way partnership between our students, our parents and our schools. For a student to make the most of all their natural potential each partner has to be fully committed to providing the opportunities to make that happen and each partner has to be equally valued and respected.
Learning: the three legged stool
When you take account of school holidays, weekends and the time before and after school, some estimates suggest that as much as 85 per cent of the time a school aged child or teenager is awake is spent outside formal classroom learning.
Teachers make use of every precious minute they have students in their care and set some homework to extend it, but they can only do so much in the time they have with your children.
Most of their waking hours your children are in your care or in the care of someone you have employed or asked to take care of them.
Parents - the missing link in education
The importance of a good home learning environment and how to create one.
Get up at 6am
Sort out breakfast
Make packed lunches
Get the kids to the school bus or drop them at school on the way to work
Do a full day at work
Pick the kids up from the child minder or take over from baby sitter back at home
Get changed
Start preparing the evening meal
Eat
Clear up
Tidy up
Make sure the kids are doing their homework
Make sure the kids get to bed on time
Slump in front of the TV or catch up on the day’s work that spilled over into the evening with the BlackBerry or the laptop
Does that sound like you? If it does, you are no different from thousands of other GEMS parents
