Dr. Karen Mapp on Making a Difference
A good home learning environment, in which parents encourage and develop their child, has an astonishing impact on performance – up to 21 per cent increases in literacy and 16 per cent increases in numeracy by the age of five (source: Early Childhood Matters: Evidence from the Effective Pre-school and Primary Education Project). According to a 2011 PISA report, the positive impacts continue into the later years when parents talk to their teenage students about education, current events and life in general. Dr. Karen Mapp talks about the difference engaged parents can make.
