GEMS Pools team of leading global thinkers on Parental Engagement
GEMS has recently brought together some of the leading thinkers on Parental Engagement and learning to create its Parental Engagement Advisory Group. The members represent diverse geographic and academic areas, but are united in their expert understanding of the impact of parents on education. Watch this space for contributions from the Group which will further enrich our engagement with our students.
About the group:
Professor Bill Lucas (Chair)
Bill already advises GEMS more widely, was closely involved in creating GEMS Parent Engagement Week in 2010 and writes extensively on the subject of learning and parenting. He is the creator of Family Learning Week in the UK.
Professor Charles Desforges
Charles is the author of a number of ground-breaking studies of the impact of parenting on student outcomes, including a seminal report for the UK’s Department for Education and Skills in 2003.
Professor Joyce Epstein
Joyce is the creator of one of the most respected and influential frameworks of parental engagement. She leads the world-renowned Center on School, Family, and Community Partnerships at John Hopkins University in the USA.
Professor Alma Harris
Alma is based at the London Institute of Education. She has written widely on the importance of parents and is currently seconded to the Welsh Assembly Government where she leds on parental engagement.
Anne Henderson
Based at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform in Washington DC, Anne is an eminent reseracher and writer in the field. She is the co-author of Beyond the Bake Sale: The Essential Guide to Family-School Partnerships.
